Baby Boomers (1943-1964)

Born from 1943 to 1964, boomers undoubtedly have been one of the most influential generations of the 20th Century. Affectionately known as “Boomers”, this generation is responsible for some of the largest economic booms and sales figures of all times topping the sales charts for things like diapers, jar baby food, Buster Browns shoes, cars, homes, etc. There were over 76 million boomers born during this time, the largest surge of live births to date with only close competition by the coming Generation Y. Boomers flourished during the Vietnam War, which they adamantly protested against, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr., John & Robert Kennedy, and the Civil Rights Movement. This generation was the first to be heavily marketed to by mass media and also held the first televisions in their homes. They are characteristically more liberal and less churchy than any previous generation. Boomers are very concerned about aging and seek health and wellness as highly critical in slowing the aging process. From a business perspective, baby boomers desire public recognition from their managers or superiors that their contributions are valuable. They also desire rewards for their hard work, ethics, and long hours and they desire to build a stellar career. They appreciate loyalty and longevity with one company. The baby boomers have tremendously influenced the age of business and the foundation of education and technology in the 1900’s.
